DATA VISUALIZATION & VISUAL ANALYTICS
DATA VISUALIZATION & VISUAL ANALYTICS
This course will focus on understanding the principles of perception, cognitive load, visual hierarchy, and narrative structure that remains as essential today as it was decades ago.
Through a structured journey, from vision and perception, to visual variables, scales, colors, taxonomy, geography, and interactivity, you will learn the principles that make visualizations effective, timeless, and technology-agnostic.
Rather than focusing on specific software, this course builds your ability to think critically about data communication: how to design with perception in mind, how to choose the right chart for the task, and how to avoid common pitfalls. Case studies highlight both good practices and mistakes, sharpening your ability to evaluate and improve any visualization.
By the end of the course, you will be able to articulate design principles that transcend specific technologies, create effective visualizations, and collaborate more strategically with AI and modern visualization tools.- In collaboration with: Salvatore Rinzivillo & Daniele Fadda (CNR - ISTI)
