GreenDIGIT is a European project dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of digital services, technologies, and Research Infrastructures.

As digital infrastructures continue to grow, their energy consumption and carbon footprint have become increasingly important challenges for the scientific and technological community.
The project addresses the need to make digital infrastructures more sustainable by considering the main factors that influence their environmental and climate impact. Its scope is to support the transition towards greener digital research services, helping Research Infrastructures reduce their energy consumption, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and adopt more responsible approaches in the operation and design of digital systems.

GreenDIGIT was initiated by four major Digital Infrastructures that play a key role in the European research ecosystem:

  • EGI, an open ecosystem providing advanced computing services for research and innovation;
  • SoBigData, a distributed Pan-European research infrastructure focused on social mining and Big Data;
  • SLICES, a distributed Research Infrastructure supporting large-scale experimental research on digital technologies;
  • EBRAINS, a digital research infrastructure for brain science and brain-inspired technology.

Together, these infrastructures contribute their expertise to address the environmental challenges of digital research services and to promote more sustainable practices across the Research Infrastructure landscape.

In this course, you will find learning modules from GreenDIGIT.
